Jeremy,

I did a quick test, to have my 'gnote' windows appear on workspace 2:

- Create a new directory ~/.devilspie/
- Edit ~/.devilspie/gnote.ds

(if (contains (application_name) "gnote") (set_viewport 2))

- Use set_viewport for compiz, doc says use set_workspace for metacity
- Save, test launching devilspie and launch with your session
