Do we have a free or even commercial alternative to Adobe After Effects under Linux? Something that would support SVG as well?
I'm trying to animate a few gears created with Inkscape. Right now, it's maddening and tedious work: With Inkscape: - Create 45 duplicates of my original image - Rotate the 45 duplicates as needed - Create 45 "export zone" - Export all zones using a batch file With Gimp: - Import all 45 frames as a layer - Save as animated gif If I make a mistake or I want to change a small detail on my original image, I need to redo this all over again. I tried After Effects but I don't like working in Windows. It doesn't support SVG, which would force me to work with Adobe Illustrator if I want to use vectors instead of raw png. I've been looking for alternatives under Linux but I couldn't find anything alive. I came across Jakasha, which is a dead project, which was moved to Cinefix, which is also a dead project. Kino can't do key-frame animation. I also found a list of animation or movie applications running under Linux but nothing specific to what I want to do. I need a program in which I can import a SVG, set a key-frame, then 15 seconds later, rotate one element and let the application do the bulk of the work. If I can't find anything, I'll have to do it the Inkscape/Gimp route or export my SVG as PNG for each segment of my image and use After Effects but I'll suffer quality loss and be stuck dual booting. I'm also thinking of looking into writing a Python script to do the job with Inkscape but I don't know how long that would take me and if it's possible. -- Ravnox _______________________________________________ mlug mailing list [email protected] https://listes.koumbit.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-listserv.mlug.ca
