Jeremy has it right, using a card reader is the best choice for file transfer because it doesn't need batteries to transfer the files! Should the charge in the camera lower, the images are not transferred and a few might be corrupted. With gphoto2, you can tether the camera! Any picture taken is moved directly to the computer.
