Regarding advice for wifi I'd agree USB would be best. If you get an external USB wifi thingy you will be able to extend it, position it, use it in other systems, even remove it :) etc. I have yet to see one that doesn't work in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (some may require a wired connection to get extra firmware), requiring compiling and NDISWrapper are really uncommon these days. Of course your best bet is buy from somewhere where you can return it (ie FutureShop, Best Buy etc). By all means come by ubuntu-qc.org when / if you need more help with Ubuntu specifically.
