Peter already gave you the answer as to how to do it.
Note that nowadays, this kind of thing is used a lot less often, because
virtual memory sizes have grown to be large enough that in most cases
you can simply store those "intermediate data" directly in memory
(which may get swapped to disk, of course, if memory pressure requires
it).
