You must click on the icon to the left of "Click to make changes" and enter your password. But you should already be able to see *IF* the system is already using ntp. If it is the case, you should read; Keep synchronised with Internet servers to the right of "Configuration". If not, it reads "Manual". You can choose to have a certain number of servers to sync from. I do know that the NRC server is THE reference for most time dependant services in Canada (if not all) and is also used by certain international scientific services because the US ones can be arbitrarily cut off for X reasons... How much time can ntpd correct for? I don't know but I do know that after the last power outage we had here in Montréal, when I turned the computer on, the time was correct when I thought of looking at it. As for the case of the time loss itself, I doubt very much it's the battery because these types of batteries (Hg/NiCad/Ag etc.) are quasi-binary. Either you have power or you don't, their decay is extremely abrupt. This I know FIRST HAND because of camera batteries when we used film. Battery life is on average, three years. Batteries do not output when not solicited (yes they do, but ever so slowly). We always bought new batteries before leaving for a trip... I have seen one guy check his battery and the moment after it was dead! So then, I suggest that you contact the motherboard manufacturer, perhaps they have an answer or better suggestions.
