Hi Mlugers and friends

We started a project around 1 June
with a government ministry to provide Linux development for several
deliverables.

Originally we thought the contract would be signed by 1 July, and thus we
started to look for talented people such as
individuals who expertise is well known to all our fellow MLUGers.

Then, as you would view it on a popular British TV show, the sub-minister came
along and changed the underlying Linux distribution on us, and that caused a
rewrite of the deliverables and the contracts. We lost the month of July due to
delays and rework.

Now we are faced with other delays as the selected distribution has non-free
codecs.  We are waiting for legal clarification as we cannot legally distribute
patented software that is not our own.

What in normal businesses takes 3-4 weeks to hammer out a contract, is taking
3-4 months or longer, and this delay is frustrating to us and I am sure, to
those involved and waiting for us to respond with good news.

Please accept our apologies for the delays. We are not certain at all when
or if the project will go forward. If not going forward, we lost 3 man-months
of work.

On the positive side,
we also learned a lot from the experience.

Your talent is not the issue,
the bottleneck is the resolving of the legal aspects of distributing Linux code
with non-free
codecs.
