This has been making the rounds on other lists, for those that have not
seen it yet, here it is:
--
As most of you must already be aware, the CRTC issued about a week ago
a ruling in favour of Usage Based Billing (UBB) which will change the
Internet landscape in Canada for the worst. Bell, Rogers will now
impose UBB to all resellers. This will kill the little competition we
have and make sure Bell and Rogers don't have to follow the technology
with their network, but impose their network on the technology.
Remember that their network was *heavily* subsidized by the federal
and provincial governments! Moreover, the UBB ruling declares that the
bandwidth caps are different across provinces!! That's right,
Ontarians will only get 25Gb/mo while Quebecers get 60Gb/mo. This
hardly seem fair for canadians. In the light of putting things in
perspective, resellers of DSL service already pay 20$/mo for the DSL
line 5Mbps, slower than Bel's service, much slower than what 20$ gets
you in Europe. More over, you will still have to pay 8$ to Ma Bell for
the copper line. Almost 30$ of your monthly internet fees _already
goes in Ma Bell's pocket_ even if you are not their client!

The CRTC has already ignored countless letters from the public, to PMs
and a petition with nearly 250 000 signatures to this date!
It's time to take it to the streets! A peaceful demonstration will
happen this Saturday, February 5 · 12:00pm - 3:00pm @ Dorchester
Square. Be there early!

tl;dr:
Anti-UBB Demonstration
Time Saturday, February 5 · 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Location Dorchester Square, Montreal

This affects _*YOU*_ it affects _*US*_ it affects your mom too,
really! I really expect foulabers to join in large number AND BRING
FRIENDS. If they see who's in the streets, the people who manage their
banks, who make their systems run, who give them their entertainment,
the 21st century truck drivers and tube builders, maybe then will they
listen!
