I have a project which will require a disk to run in an embedded system. I
tried installing UBUNTU on it, but the disk would not boot.  I was led to
believe that I must first put onto the disk an mbr.  I thought that a ubuntu
installation would do just that.

I would like to dump the mbr,  or the mbr from another drive, and put it onto
the drive that I have.

I know one can do this with dd command, but man docs were not to informative.

If you know a quick way to produce an empty or non empty mbr, please let me
know.  Perhaps grub-install would do that, but how can I verify that it did it?

Thanks in advance for any and all constructive feedback.
