If you use Dropbox for linux, this could be for you.

Last month we ran up 53 gigs of internet traffic, while normal use is 13.5
gigs. I happened to notice that a backup of a constructed  root partition was
not being fully uploaded. In fact, certain folders were fully uploaded, but the
folder title or directory entry did not clear to indicate "done" .  This also
pertained to a mtab file copy.

So about 40 gigs a month of Dropbox attempts to sync 2 linux computers on a
common network.
How to know it was dropbox?  Watch the modem lights, and as we cancelled each
Dropbox, the flickering dropped by 50%.

I reported the bugs to Dropbox. If they come with a fix, great.  Problem is
independent of OPSYS, (Fedora, UBUNTU 11.x), Debian, Scientific Linux but
appears to be a bug in the way they handle ext4 files.
