I have a netbook with the typical netbook screen and the depth / width limitations. Even with assigning the optioni to have the favourites bar to disappear, the software assumes the screen is physically larger. I eventually had to dump ubuntu on this device and install Gnome3 via Fedora. I am delighted with Gnome3 and two tweaks. One shows the menu next to the favourites bar, where one can click submenu and then menu item or one can do the full screen icon display. And the screen is displayed correctly, without overshoot. I get 5 hours of battery life with Fedora. I can't recall what it was with UBUNTU, as I don't plan to go back on this device to 12.4.

I resisted with Gnome 2 in 11.04 and didn't upgrade to 11.10. And do you know? I found it very pleasant to use, in my 27" single monitor workstation. Mark was right in that.
