Once again hyperbole. Canonical has no interest in spying on you. The dash is a search dialogue that allows you to search online as well as locally (if you want). In order to search online the contents of that dialogue mush be sent to some sort of search engine. Canonical has not installed a key logger any more than you Google search dialogue in your browser is a key logger.

Yes, I admit advertising supported product or services blur the line between user and product. The line is blurred by any thing that is partially supported by advertising revenue including the Society de Transport de Montreal as it sells adds in buses and metro stations. Even some movies are partially supported by advertising via product placement. Most people are conscious of this fact you are product to all most media including news organizations and websites that support themselves by selling your eyes to advertisers but do not equate this to evil.

It is not the choice people are making that disturbs me it is your right to use any OS you want. It is the venom and hyperbole surrounding this issue I find frustrating.

my second 2 cents

Wow I really can't believe the fuss! I use 12.04 lts but had to see what every one was whining about.

This is a very valid discussion. Think about the future and the repercussions. Think about being a product instead of a user.

Did you read the legal notice (if you didn't then just by typing in dash you accepted the terms)? Nothing bothers you about that? Storing/sending your keystrokes? You understand this is a keylogger sending this info to both Canonical and their "select third parties"? Still no problem with it? Great if you don't have a problem, but understand this is a bit of an issue for some users, and it is going to be discussed.
