If you decide to go with xbmc, install raspbmc or openelec (my choice - I've put it on an old 512MB SD card and it works just perfect), don't go with pidora, raspbian or arch - a full distro is too heavy to run xbmc on it. My setup uses a NFS mount over the WiFi connection and I can play 1080 videos with DTS sound without any hiccup at the default CPU speed (no overvoltage/no overclock).
