hi, in my opinoion, it might  not matter much which flavor of French you
speak.  What matters is that you participate and are interested in what is
going on in the culture locally / in French. In France ,say, your water
cooler conversations might be about le foot, the good old days of Zidane,
Carla Bruni newest hairstyle, and Depardieu tax flight to Belgium.. and of
course none of this has any relevance locally. In Quebec, people will talk
about Roy Dupuis, Véronique Cloutier, Tout Le Monde En Parle, les enveloppes
brunes, and le maire Rhéaume's latest outburst. In learning about those
people/facts as soon as you get here, you would have something to talk 
about,  with that cute France French accent no less,   with about 3 or 4
million folks - quickly building a network of friends and acquaintances with
whom you can have conversations within days of landing here, surely that's
very helpfull to finding a job and building a life.
