BirdLife Indonesia, a national Indonesian organisation working for
the conservation of birds and their habitats, is seeking to recruit staff for 5 exciting new positions in the recently created Knowledge Centre. The centre aims to provide accurate and appropriate information to internal clients, to provide analysis to support strategic decision making, and to facilitate lesson learning and innovation within the organisation. The centre manages Indonesia's most comprehensive collection of information on bird conservation and is the basis for BirdLife Indonesia's response to queries from members and the public. 1. Short-term Knowledge Management Consultant. The consultant will work for 2 months with BirdLife Indonesia staff to design a Knowledge Management system which will enable the rapid collection, storage and up-dating of data, and enable searching of metadata and electronic data directly and through remote access. Proven experience on similar projects and immediate availability are required. 2. Research and Communications Specialists (2 positions, one focusing on biological conservation issues, one on natural resource management issues). The KC Research and Communications specialists are responsible for collating, analysing, re-working and finally communicating information to the KC's clients. The Bird Conservation Research and Communications Specialist will concentrate on data and information concerned with threatened species and sites, birds, and conservation policy issues, whilst the Natural Resource Management Research and Communications Specialist will concentrate on data and information concerned with social and sustainable management issues. Both positions require proven ability to think clearly and analytically, ability to synthesise and communicate complex issues to a wide variety of audiences, a strong background in conservation with a relevant qualification, and adequate written English. 3. Information Management Officer and Assistant (2 positions). The Information Management Officer will ensure that electronic and other systems are in place to generate, store and access the information held by the KC, and that staff understand and make the best use of the facilities. Proven experience in developing and operating computer based information systems including web-based access is required. The Information Management Assistant will oversee the day- to-day running of BirdLife Indonesia's library, including servicing requests for information, and be responsible for maintaining databases and electronic filing. Strong attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure, and an interest in conservation issues are required.
