The cartalk.com TIME KILL WEEKLY Special "Spiffing Up The Plaza" Edition ______________________________________________ Killing Time, Unencumbered by the Work Process ______________________________________________ Maury Maille, Editor
What's new at Car Talk Plaza? Persian violet, Sherwood green, sea star, northern air and marmalade, hawthorn yellow, that's what. You see, last fall, Ray posed a puzzler about painting the office. You can read the puzzler right here: http://www.cartalk.com/content/puzzler/transcripts/200343/index.html Well, it turns out that after hearing the puzzler, our Producer Dougie Berman went back to the office and said, "You know, the place is looking a bit dingy." Dingy? Try 15 years of worn out and increasingly smudgy, grimy eggshell, cheapo-office-white. Well, it turned out to be quite a project. I mean, YOU try moving 15 years worth of Car Talk tapes! http://www.cartalk.com/content/timekill/DCH.jpg And then there was the issue of evacuation. We needed to be out of the office for a few days. And what's your small gang of hard driving (sic) Car Talk workers (sic) to do when its offices are in such utter disarray? The only logical thing: use it as an excuse for a vacation! (Hence the encore presentation not long ago, for those of you paying worrisomely close attention.) So, we packed our swimming costumes, Cohiba cigars and tanning butter, and headed for South Beach, Miami. Needless to say, Tom, Ray and Dougie found it exceptionally stressful: http://www.cartalk.com/content/timekill/Cardozo.jpg Before we go, an important piece of safety news: in case you missed it, DaimlerChrysler announced a recall of 2.3 million cars that are at risk of coming out of gear and rolling away. You can get all the details on this safety recall on the lower left of the page at http://www.cartalk.com Not driving a Chrysler product? Consider yourself fortunate-- and share the link with anyone you know, who does. You just might save them a humungous hassle. Or worse. Time to get the sand out of my hair, Maury Maille Chief Mohito Mixer Car Talk Plaza P.S. For the answer that puzzler, see http://www.cartalk.com/content/puzzler/transcripts/200344/answer.html P.P. S. Here's this week's Lame Joke Of The Week, courtesy of Jill Langford: A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and one night he's doing a show in a small town in Arkansas. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes when a blonde woman in the fourth row stands on her chair and starts shouting, "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? What does the color of a person's hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It's guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and in the community and from reaching our full potential as a person. Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general...and all in the name of humor!" The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde yells, "You stay out of this, mister! I'm talking to that little twit on your knee." ******************* Doing some car research?
