The cartalk.com TIME KILL WEEKLY Special "Let's Not Roll" Edition ______________________________________________ Killing Time, Unencumbered by the Work Process ______________________________________________ Maury Maille, Editor
What's new at Car Talk Plaza? Well, we're fighting with Tommy over his new, low-salt diet. Tommy's doctors told him to cut down on salt. So instead of the usual pre-show slathering of chips and sodium-drenched munchies, we've switched over to fruit and a few low-salt pastries. Tommy, like a petulant infant in a high chair, pushed the healthy fare away from him, crossed his arms, and refused to look any of us in the eye until we went out and found him at least one salted peanut. Now it can be told: We found it under the radiator in the Car Talk Plaza lunchroom, and wiped the cat hair off it. We'll try the fruit again next week. There's REAL news elsewhere, though-- notably, the new government rollover results. For the first time ever, the feds have conducted real-life tests to see how cars and SUVs fare when subjected to driving conditions that might prompt some vehicles to go (how do we put this politely?) ass over teakettle. The scores are in, and not everyone's getting a perfect 10. Check results now by clicking on "New Rollover Ratings" at http://www.cartalk.com Here's why this matters: Even though rollovers are only three percent of all car accidents, they account for nearly 30% of fatalities. If you haven't tried it yet, you won't believe it-- this is a neat way to avoid those niggling blind spots that can hide a bread truck. http://www.cartalk.com/content/features/mirrors/ Time to go find Tommy. We promise, we'll have him corralled in the studio just in time for a new, fresh and (as always) lousy Car Talk show, tomorrow. Maury Maille Chief Magliozzi Searcher Car Talk Plaza P.S. Here's this week's Lame Joke Of The Week, courtesy of Kappy Pfeiffer: A bus carrying only ugly people crashes into an on-coming truck, and everyone inside dies. They get to meet their maker, and because of the grief they have experienced, he decides to grant them one wish each, before they enter Paradise. They're all lined up, and God asks the first one what the wish is. "I want to be gorgeous," and so God snaps His fingers, and it is done. The second one in line hears this and says, "I want to be gorgeous, too." Another snap of His fingers and the wish is granted. This goes on for a while, but when God is halfway down the line, the last guy in line starts laughing. When there are only ten people left, this guy is rolling on the floor, laughing harder than ever. Finally, God reaches this guy and asks him what his wish will be. The guy calms down and says, "Make 'em all ugly again." ******************* Doing some car research?
