What's new at Car Talk Plaza?

Our lousy show on your iPod every week, that's what. Audible is the company
that provides subscriptions to Car Talk for MP3 players and iPods, along with a
variety of other public radio shows and audio books. It's not free--it's by
subscription--but if you like the convenience and functionality of podcasts,
you can now get Car Talk that way, too.

For more information on buying Car Talk shows individually or getting a
subscription to Audible, drop by

http://www.cartalk.com/Radio/Show/

Of course, you can still/always listen for free via streaming audio right from
that same page

http://www.cartalk.com/Radio/Show/.

But for those who want their Car Talk to go (Some weeks, everybody wants Car
Talk to go!), subscription podcasts from Audible are now an option. (Note to
you socialists out there--yes, we know Cat Box Talk and All Drill-Bits
Considered podcasts are free, but until that big endorsement deal with Ralph's
Falafel Emporium comes through, we have to pay for our lousy web site somehow.)

In other news, all's quiet at Car Talk Plaza. There's no cackling laughter and
no cries of, "boooo-gussss!" Just a few of us lackeys are left, along with the
occasional, straggling Car Talk fan and tourist in Our Fair City, who managed
to find Car Talk Plaza.

See, we're in the midst of our official, Car Talk summer vacation. Ray has
traded his steel-toed work shoes for Tevas and has his fingers working the gas
grill, instead of a worn engine block.

As for Tom, well.... nothing much has changed, actually. Except that,
technically, he's on vacation, too. He's still his usual self, though-- namely,
a one-man ranting and raving, wandering eyesore, sullying the landscape for
every passing Boston Brahmin on Boston Common. (Keep up the good work, Tommy!)

Ever wonder what Tom and Ray really do on summer vacation? Here's the lowdown:

That, of course, is in between Tommy's part-time job -- meticulously hosing
down his old beaters:

That's all for now.

Hoping you're enjoying some quality time on the beach,

P.S. Here's this week's Lame Joke Of The Week, courtesy of Rod Sams:

A couple had been debating buying a vehicle for weeks.

He wanted a truck. She wanted a fast little sports-like car so she could zip
through traffic around town.

He probably would have settled on any beat-up old truck, but everything she
seemed to like was way out of their price range.

"Look," she said, "I want something that goes from 0 to 200 in just a few
seconds. Nothing else will do. My birthday is coming up so surprise me!"

He did just that. For her birthday, he bought her a brand-new bathroom scale.

Nobody has seen or heard from him since.
