I'm also using it for Japanese. I use SCIM with Anthy and also find
that Japanese doesn't work directly inside Mnemosyne, but virtually
every other application I have except Terminal.
I'm currently having to either copy+paste the Japanese text from gedit
or just import cards in Japanese.
One thing that I find more worrying is that there are a number of
kanji that don't show up correctly. They appear as square characters
and I can confirm that copying them into gedit restores the character
to a readable state. Unfortunately my Mnemosyne install is misbehaving
at the moment, so I can't give example broken characters (just started
2 minutes ago, haven't diagnosed it yet)
