Hello, I am creating all of my cards (at home) on a Mac, then
exporting them (_not_ checking "Reset learning data on export") as
XML. Then, in order to review the cards during my lunch break at work,
I import this XML file into Mnemosyne running on a Linux machine.
I never modify the cards on the Linux machine, I only review them.
After reviewing them I perform the reverse operation -- exporting from
Linux Mnemosyne as XML (hopefully preserving the "learning data" that
was changed while reviewing), then importing this file into Mac
Mnemosyne at home, prior to adding more cards.
But even though I chose the learning data _not_ to be reset (in either
Mac->Linux or Linux->Mac direction), the "Not memorised" number is not
the same between the 2 machines when transferring on the same day.
I checked this group's posts regarding this topic and found that the
general advice is to transfer the whole .mnemosyne directory between
different machines, not the XML file. But that seems clumsy to me,
especially since 2 different operating systems are involved.
And since it seems that "learning data" is part of the XML data, I
don't quite understand why the "Not memorised" data is not the same on
the different machines on the same day.
I guess what I don't understand is what is _not_ being saved in the
XML export/import files, that _is_ saved in the database (i.e. ".mem"
file)?
So any general advice on the best way to create cards on one machine
and review them on another, while preserving all the data that is
generated, would be appreciated.
Being a new user, I'm probably not understanding something fundamental
here.
Best regards.
