> What are your subject areas? (eg Learning Japanese, Computing terms...)
Chinese only at this time.
> Please describe the contents of your card decks
1. mcr01, mcr02 = chapters of "Modern Chinese Reader". 450 sentences
two ways: hanzi to audio+pinyin, and audio to hanzi+pinyin. Complete.
2. nc0101, nc0102, etc, nc0201, nc0202, etc: "New Concept Chinese for
Children" (BLCUP), broken down by volume and lesson. Contains 3600
cards about equally divided between: A) hanzi to definition+pinyin,
definition to hanzi+pinyin B) words to definition+pinyin+audio,
definition to hanzi+pinyin+audio C) (counting a line of poetry as a
sentence) sentence to pinyin+audio, audio to sentence+pinyin. This is
complete through volume 6 ("two years"), as of five days ago.
I intend to flashcardize the two years of Russian I took in the '90s;
I still have the books and digitized tapes ("Russian for Everybody").
After all of the above, I wouldn't bother chopping my own Spanish; I
would use a reasonable pre-made deck. It's a good thing that the time
spent making flashcards is productive. It also for me cements a
*commitment* to a particular book; my belief in the quality of the
books I've chosen justifies the time spent to build a permanent
reference (readable by a tool that produces periodic learning-strength-
prioritized quizzes!). I back-up about once a week. Too bad I didn't
choose PCR or NPCR!
> Have you shared your decks with others or would be willing to do so?
If I could get authoritative permission I would be very happy to offer
the above to the mnemosyne decks collection. Not wanting to be a
nuisance, requiring a digital signature, notarization etc., I wonder
what form of permission would be sufficient?
> How has Mnemosyne helped you learn the material?
Mnemosyne generates strength-of-memory-prioritized quizzes.
> What do you find is the best time of day to review your decks?
I've been making and adding 600 cards per month for seven months. To
ensure that I finish, while permitting taking breaks and attending to
my other responsibilities, I must begin in the morning. Then the
answer to your question is: all day. This is too much, so beginning
now the "third year" of my children's textbook series, I'll be
changing my policies to produce fewer cards.
