This is probably documented somewhere, but I've been unable to really nail it 
down (so pointers are also appreciated).

Do spaced repetition systems help you remember a given amount of data more 
quickly?  Or is it simply more efficient; i.e., you remember the same amount of 
data in the same amount of time, it just takes less effort to do it?  Or both?
