Memorising lists requires other menmonic techniques, such as the journey method, number pegs, systems of loci, etc. I have been writing about these on my blog http://memoryskills.blogspot.com For example, I remember the coluors of the rainbow from ROY G BIV (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue indigo, violet). I remember the sequence of syllables in the Japanese Hiragana and Katakana chart from this acronym: A Kind Samurai Told Naomi How My Yak Ran Wild That was very easy to remember and no need to use flash cards.
