Up to 5k is no problem. I only began to notice slowdowns (mostly with
the search box) at around 14k. And it's easier to just put everything
in one .mem - easier to manage & backup. Although I would suggest that
you think of a good set of categories (which would also facilitate any
future .mem split, if you decided to do so): it's easier to start with
a good categorization than to realize 1000 questions in that half of
them should be in a different category, and go fix it!
