The way it works out of the box in 2.0 is that you can configure the formatting through the UI of certain fields, i.e. you can have all your Japanese text in red, the translations in bold, etc... I experimented with buttons to choose formatting, but I abandoned that idea for now. Not only does it look very cluttered, the way I described above is actually much easier to change the formatting of certain fields in your cards consistently over your entire deck. This being said, I've designed the plugin mechanism such that it is easy for a plugin to override the edit/add cards dialog, so what you propose could be in a plugin.
