Dear all,

I recently took a course on memory techniques with a colleague, in order to
start teaching that course myself. On Thursday, I did so for the third time,
and it finally all came together.

It made me realise my work with Mnemosyne was pretty pointless... not
because of Mnemosyne, don't get me wrong, but because of the way I dealt
with the information. I found that I needed lots of repetition before
something would stick, and even then it didn't stick as well as I wanted it
to.

Using my imagination to memorise, suddenly allowed me to progress with items
I just kept forgetting, and now, these things still immediately come to
mind, whereas remembering all the rest is still a struggle.

I haven't used Mnemosyne for a while now... I needed all my mental capacity
for getting up to speed in my new job. To be honest, I can't wait to use
both Mnemosyne AND memory techniques based on imagination. The result can
hardly be anything but phenomenal. By the way, every time I teach this
course, I recommend Mnemosyne to people.

I felt I needed to tell you guys this, because it is so crucial to
memorising. If you want to know how it works, I'll be posting articles about
it on www.wimwoittiez.be (in English) and www.slimmerwerken.be (in Dutch),
but the best resources are 2 books: "Maximise your memory" by Jonathan
Hancock, and "Use your memory" by Tony Buzan. A third book comes to mind,
which focused a lot on a healthy diet and exercise. I'm in pretty good shape
in that respect, so it was less useful to me, but to some, this could be the
first priority.

It's so essential to know this before starting to do extensive work with
Mnemosyne, that I wonder if we could find a way to make it practically
impossible for people to ignore.

I'm curious to hear how many of you are really using these techniques, and
how you feel about the subject!

Kind regards,

Wim
