In addition to what other people have said, I would also suggest adding less 
cards per day. 400 is already a pretty big workload, and there is a big risk 
of burning yourself out.

As for catching up, Mnemosyne will automatically show the most urgent cards 
first, so there is some rescheduling going on behind the scenes.
