Hi, Sorry for your loss...
Two summers ago, there was some discussion on the list about whether Mnemosyne should take ownership of the files in the media directory and be allowed to automatically purge media files which are no longer referenced. Originally, Mnemosyne did not, but after that discussion, it did. I'll tweak this behaviour to issue a warning before going ahead with deleting orphaned files.
