I haven't checked in a while but I recall having exactly the same issue
as the OP, and on bird sounds as it happens! (1.x under Linux).  I found
it impractical except for very short extracts so stopped using it for
sounds in the end.

As in all matters, the beta of 2.0 is your friend :-)
