Hi, If you're a first time user of Mnemosyne, I'd suggest you move to the 2.0 beta series instead:
http://users.ugent.be/~pbienst/pub/mnemosyne-beta-10-setup.exe Do follow this list and install all subsequent betas too, as you will not be able to jump directly from beta-10 to the released version.
