Previously I reported by direct email that my hanging problem spontaneously solved itself in beta 11, but has reappeared in RC1. This is an update after two weeks of using the latest release (20120515) to report that it hangs only rarely, perhaps once in ~50+ cards. That is significantly better than what I experienced in beta 10 or so. (Win 7 64.)
