As far as I can see, the hanging issues only affect a handful of people, and the majority does not have any problems whatsoever.
I do agree that fixing this issue is absolute top priority though.
That, and the ubiquity of plugins, which to be fair I haven't looked at in a while, so may well be solved already.
FastFormat, MnemoGogo and Gogorender have been ported, and the functionality of many of them has been taken over by the core of Mnemosyne 2.0.
