Hello there, dear Mnemosyne community!

First off, thanks for the flashy new 2.0 version, it is looking lots better
than the old one, and I personally love the sync functionality - for this
exam season at my university, I convinced several co-students of mine to
give Mnemosyne a try, and 4 of them have indeed liked it so much that we
set up a server instance and built a collaborative "study database" - quite
awesome, since we all had the added benefit of learning from cards that
someone else created! Now we have at least 10 guys wanting in on it to
study the last few days...

I just wanted to bring forward two things that I find a little lacking in
the current GUI, and which I think could easily be enhanced.

First off being a computer science and engineering student myself, I love
the fact that I get to use LaTeX in all of its goodness for my cards. But
having to *manually *type the tags everytime can get very tiresome - for
our big study month, we ended up programming a couple of keyboard macros
for us to take some work away, but it would still be very neat to have *Ctrl+B
*functionality for bold text, or *Ctrl+I *for italics. *Ctrl+L *could be
for LaTeX tags, of course physically *inserting the tags *(with the cursor
in between) instead of a what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach like on this
Google editor for example.

And maybe (just maybe?) you could consider having a small "toolbar" (kind
of what you have here for the google text editor), so that the less
speed-oriented power users might also save some time when formatting rich
content for cards? I like the simple interface though, and would be more
than happy to just see the shortcut functionality.

Second of all I have to say that though I myself love Qt, I am not so happy
about your approach to managing different application windows - I run a
Unix-based OS, and the fact that my window manager can only bring *all* of
the applications' windows to the front or send them to the back (at once!)
means that when I have some slides or notes that I want to "make cards out
of" I have to Alt+Tab back and forth instead of just being able to **pull
the "Add cards" mini-window over my notes or material - everytime my focus
is on that one, the main application window also comes to the front
(overlapping my notes)! I tried in on Window$ just to be sure it wasn't my
window manager config, and indeed, same behavior. Perhaps you could
consider (what I suspect may be the cause) making a fully-fledged window
out of *Add Cards* instead of just a dialog of sorts? The same thing
applies to the *Card Browser* - it would be really nice to be able to have
it as an independent window to put on a secondary screen instead of having
it always overlap the main application window and stopping interaction with
it! Apropos *Card Browser*... how about making it possible to add new cards
from there? As of now, I have to close it, open another dialog, and then
close that one and open the card browser back again (and find the place I
was browsing before)!

As a closing remark, I don't want my criticism to be taken the wrong way: I
think you have developed a very nice piece of software, which is working
well and does many things in a great way! I just think it could be a little
better, and contribute my ideas for it. After my exams, I would like to
look at some code and maybe contribute with something more than just ideas,
though Python isn't really my strong leg...

Greetings,
David Haas
