Hmm, since you seem to have problems both with the old and with the new
version, I'm wondering if there is not some hardware issue with your
computer (drive, memory, ...).
Are you able to try Mnemosyne on a different machine?

About five or six days ago I downloaded the most recent version of Mnemosyne.
On the first two days It worked perfectly, but as I had no cards planned for
the following two days I didn't open the program on those days. When I tried to
open Mnemosyne yesterday nothing happened. Not even an error message. The
program simply refuses to work. I tried different normal ways to open the
program, but no, nothing worked.
I upgraded because the older version I used became corrupted somehow and didn't
recognise cards anymore.
