Your goal is to speak a foreign language; mine too.
I start with a Production card; 2 reasons
1.I can explain the Word ( or a phrase )I am learning, as clearly as it
needs to be. Whereas if I start with Recognition card, 90% of time I
have a phrase ( more then one in some cases ); and the phrase inevitably
contains some hints ( even though I try to remove them).
2. Saves time not having Production cards ( most of time ).

I'd like to read ( see a card or 2 ?? ) how you had studied History TEXT;
text that requires Multiple answers ( not Dates or names and alike ).
Example (as if you Need an example :-)
Reasons for Berlin Wall ?.
3. What Card types to avoid ?
4. Cards you finally ended up with ?
5. Did you 'design' any hack - to expand Cloze_Del beyond the intended use ?
