FWIW, the svgtoquiz script (http://tbrk.org/software/svgtoquiz.html) generates cards with images in the Mnemosyne2 format. See: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~tbrk/svgtoquiz/trunk/view/head:/svgtoquiz/export/mnemosyne2.py#L218 This code is a bit old, but maybe it helps.
