+1 to the app bar - it should automatically detect a lack of hardware menu 
button and fill it in. It's done that with the two apps I've made.

For anyone else reading, I was able to get the menu button to appear on my 
Samsung Note 5 by long pressing the back button, of all things. So give all 
the long press options a try!
