Hi,

Provided you insert your media through the right-click popup menu, Mnemosyne
indeed automatically copies it to the media folder. So, moving Mnemosyne’s data
directory automatically moves the media directory contained within it.

Cheers,

Peter

I asked my question in a poor manner I think but think I may understand now
anyway. Let's see.

I create diagrams from a system I want to study and put them into a
Dropbox\Mnemosyne folder which is obviously outside the system itself.

I then insert the jpg into a card and now I see that the jpg itself is added to
the default.db_media folder. So moving my Dropbox\Mnemosyne folder is
irrelevant as the jpgs, not just a link, are stored in the default.db_media
folder, right?

Thanks again Peter,
Gerry

No, Mnemosyne always look in <db_name>.db_media inside the Mnemosyne data
directory (which itself can be configured).

Hi Peter:

So there is no place in the configuration to tell Mnemosyne to look in a
certain (new) directory for jpgs?

Thanks for your patience.

Hi,

Yes, the versions need to match.
If you move the image directory, Mnemosyne will no longer find the media files.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks Peter.
1. Do the versions of Mnemosyne have to be the same on both computers?
2. I have inserted images with CTRL-I. Is that a link to an image or the actual
image - wondering if I move the image directory does it mess things up?

Hi,

.mnemosyne is the directory name under linux, under Windows it’s typically
C:\users\Gerry\AppData\Roaming\Mnemosyne you have to copy
(also make sure to write C:\Dropbox\My Dropbox\Mnemosyne’ then.

Cheers,

Peter

I would like to do this as I can in general understand how it would work. Found
an old post that said copy folder to Dropbox and then create this batch file
on each computer you will use:

"REM =========== beginning of batch file ======================
@echo off
cd "C:\Dropbox\My Dropbox"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mnemosyne\mnemosyne.exe" -d "C:\Dropbox\My
Dropbox\.mnemosyne"
REM =========== end of batch file ======================"

1. People mention copying the .mnemosyne folder to Dropbox - (I cannot find
that on my computer; mnemosyne under Program Files is there alright)

2. Is the above method still OK or have changes in Mnemosyne changed this.

Thanks very much,
Gerry
