Uh oh, stumbled on the hidden solution myself. On both my Android devices there is a Mnemosyne hamburger menu (the hamburger menu is the three horizontal lines you see at the top of many Android screens, either on the far left or the far right) but it is hidden on the Mnemosyne screen. All that appear on the screen are the question and answer windows. However, if one swipes down from the top of the screen to call up the Android device settings the Mnemosyne hamburger miraculously appears with, among its options, a Sync item.
