Yes, this same issue has come up in the native API; I added some methods (still 
on a branch) to ask a replication whether a specific document has been pushed 
yet.

That sounds reasonable. (Do you know whether CouchDB's _active_tasks already 
includes this?) Please file an issue to request it.
