FYI, PhoneGap is owned by Adobe and Cordova is the open source version. Generally most plugins are interoperable between the two. We are using Ionic and the Couchbase Lite plugin just fine.
@Jens: Ionic layers AngularJS on top of Cordova and also has a CLI tool that acts as a wrapper for the Cordova CLI for certain tasks.
