Yeah there are known issues with ios + ELB, see this google group thread <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/mobile-couchbase/jJMqnoauMWQ/FHND_WqtYaMJ> .
Either you have to disable websockets on ios, or switch to nginx <http://developer.couchbase.com/mobile/develop/guides/sync-gateway/nginx/index.html> . On our demo cluster <https://github.com/couchbaselabs/ToDoLite-iOS/blob/2dfa1e21577ab329b60f13722ed440ca8118074e/ToDoLite/AppDelegate.m#L16> we're successfully using ios websockets + nginx.
