Just a note to confirm what Kats says here. Graphite should be enabled by default in Gecko on all platforms as of v24 (on desktop, it was enabled for v22, bug 700023).

Note that in the Gecko 22 timeframe, we also removed the configure-time option to omit Graphite from the build (bug 844133). So the code is always present, even if it is disabled using the runtime preference; but that pref is now enabled by default.

Great! Thanks.
I was afraid it might be stripped out to reduce the footprint of the library, seeing as how it isn't enabled by default in Firefox (as far as I know).

I don't know of any reason we would explicitly turn off Graphite support in GeckoView, so yes, I think you can assume there will be Graphite support there. Jonathan Kew is our resident font expert so I've CC'd him as well.

(Jonathan - for context, GeckoView is something we're building for Android to be a replacement for the Android-provided WebView. The idea is to have a widget based on Gecko that other Android apps can embed to render pages).

Hello,

I have an interest in supporting Graphite-enabled fonts in apps, and
GeckoView with Graphite font rendering enabled seems to be one of the
only solutions I can find.

I’m curious to know, will there be support for the Graphite font
rendering engine in GeckoView like there is in Firefox?

Thank you,
Jay Clark
