Thank you. This is very nice. Much needed, too.
Just one thing: Headers for the list are not very discoverable. I would
propose to make a home screen that has rectangle frames (same as the
"top sites" screen now looks like, 2 per column, 3 rows visible, more
rows scrollable), just that each frame stands for one of the "lists".
Advantages:
* the "lists" have more visibility (right now, a list entry that I add
would be at the end of the header list and not even visible without
manual scrolling)
* the lists are much easier to open: much bigger click targets than the
header, and we can show 6 lists at the same time, apart from 2-3.
* The frame content itself is populated by the "list" code and can offer
some very limited UI, showing an "overview" of that list, including
dynamic content. This would make the UI a lot more fun and explorable
than a mere list of header names.
Disadvantage:
* The "top sites" are no longer the first screen, but one click further
away.
Bookmarks vs. top sites:
This design would, however, slightly improve another problem:
For me personally, the second most annoying thing (right after tab
selection) when using the Firefox Android browser is that I need 4 taps
to access a bookmark, and all of the click targets are tiny. I have
scroll up to see the URLbar (and pay attention to be swiping fast
enough, to not click a link on the page), then click into the urlbar,
then click on a tiny header for "bookmarks", then click on the bookmark,
which again is a small click target. This feels extremely cumbersome,
esp. because these are my bookmarks, i.e. the sites that I explicitly
told the browser I want to be able to access quickly.
I personally feel that the "top sites" are way too prominent in the UI,
and (as an end user) I'm annoyed that I don't have a way to change that.
