Hi everybody,
I just pushed Bug 1106593 [1], which saves APK space by Proguarding the
bloated Google Play Service libraries we ship in order to support
casting to Google's Chromecast devices. I am right now casting
mfinkle's charming "Video Casting Test" examples [2] to my local
Chromecast, so we're not *completely* busted, but please be on the
look-out for new run-time symbols/linking/DEX problems.
I'd like to publicly commend ckitching for jumping on this ticket,
pushing through multiple technical obstacles, clearly communicating the
options, and getting a solution out the door in days. Hat tip!
I intend to follow-up with final numbers on how much this reduces our
APK size, but ckitching saw MBs on try. Now let's hope it sticks!
