Many thanks to mfinkle for filing and to contributor Stephen Barker for jumping on the investigation. I'm confident Stephen would have addressed this if I hadn't gotten to it first. For the record, Mac OS X ships curl by default and the bootstrap command will install homebrew for you, so some of mfinkle's steps can be removed. In light of Greg Szorc's marvelous blog post [1] describing steps (barriers, really) to contribution, it's worth highlighting when we have already removed one.
