The four-day festival will feature more than 160 exciting interactive exhibits of the innovative products and technologies that are transforming our world. Over the past three years, more than 100,000 visitors have visited WIRED NextFest in San Francisco (2004), Chicago (2005) and New York (2006). Informationlab (Auke Touwslager – The Netherlands, Ursula Lavrencic - Slovenia) was invited to exhibit their experimental art installation Cell Phone Disco at the 'Future of Communication' pavilion. Cell Phone Disco is a surface that visualizes the electromagnetic field of an active mobile phone. It consists of several thousand sensors each connected to a LED diode which illuminates when an electromagnetic field is present. Cell Phone Disco makes an invisible property of the environment perceptible to our senses. It reveals the communicating body of the mobile phone.
