Hello everybody, I'm very interested in Health Care Technology and this topic has gotten my attention!
There are many initiatives about cellphone thechnologies helping on Health issues, for example, the cellphone model LG-5200 (Glucophone), from LG Electronics, which is a glucose meter! Another interesting thing is an application for Diabetes control which brings near patient and doctor, created by a Brazilian small entreprise called "Quasar telemedicina". The application is the "GlicOnline" which is installed in JAVA based cellphone and helps diabetic persons with carbohydrate counting diet, insulin dosages based on medical information, glucose control and it sends the alimentation table and glucemia results to the doctor via GPRS data, archiving all informations in a database system where the doctor can easily to follow the patient treatment and his habits. I have a folder about GLICONLINE in English, if anyone is interested I can send it Another interesting iniciative (study) is the measurement of protein and glucose via cellphone using the telephone camera and an homogeneous white paper containing the blood drop! This study is maden by Mr. Emanuel Carrilho from USP (São Paulo University in Brazil). Mr. Emanuel Carrilho lives in USA nowadays (concluding the PhD degree in Harvard). The INdT (Nokia Technology Institute), in Brazil, has launched recently an application called "NDG - Nokia Data Gathering". It's very very interesting!!!!
