If accessibility shortcut is turned on by default, then you should be
able to activate Talk back without sighted assistance. Put your phone
on a flat surface. Press and hold the power button for a couple of
seconds. Then keep just 2 fingers on the screen. Make sure you put
only 2 fingers on the screen. In a few seconds, you should hear a
prompt that asks you if you want to enable accessibility, continue to
keep holding the 2 fingers on the screen, in a few seconds, talk back
should be enabled and you should get a prompt that accessibility is
enabled. If it doesn't work, you would need sighted assistance for the
first time use, Go to settings/accessibility. In there get the person
to turn talkback on. Most new phones now come with TTS Engin
installed. You get the Google TTS by default, you can download other
TTS from the Playstore later. There is the free eSpeak TTS available
that is developed by the Eyes-Free Group that is Google's
accessibility team. Some other TTS Apps like Ivona are available as a
trial beta for now.
Hope it helps.
