indeed it would be awkward to explain this thing and how it differs from partial in the documentation. as for use cases, it would be presumptuous to assume it is not intentional, but despite the name i frequently remember setDisplayForElement as taking its arguments in the reverse order. aside from that, i am not sure it is much more helpful than explicitly defining anonymous functions in the cases that are not covered by partial.
